What You Should Know If You Have Been Involved In A Car Accident
by Jens A. Korgaard, D.C

Dear Friend,

If you have been involved in an auto accident, you have a lot of things to think about and there are some things you absolutely need to know. Did you know that one of the most stressful aspects of living in modern life is dealing with the problems that arise after an auto accident? Were you also aware that most auto accident injuries are hidden and seldom detected for months even years? Worse than that, most auto accident victims are unaware of the damaging effects of hidden injuries so they release the insurance company from liability by settling before getting checked for hidden injuries.

That's a gigantic mistake! Why? Because a lot of auto accident victims receive inappropriate care from either the hospital, medical doctor, or physical therapy clinic. They receive pain medication or muscle relaxers and are released from care. Then, while their pain is hidden with medication, they settle their case.

This is a big mistake. Don't let this happen to you!! Because if you do, you may experience pain, headaches, muscle stiffness, fatigue, and other problems including arthritis many months down the road. Remember, Nothing is more important than your health when you start to lose it.

Here's where the problem begins...Most people who suffer from an auto accident have one thing on their mind; Their Automobile! Common questions include:

"Who is going to fix my car?"
"What will I drive in the mean time?"
"Will my insurance rates go up?" and
"Who is going to pay for it!?".

And the last thing on their mind is:

"Am I Really Alright?"

Not only are auto accidents an inconvenience and a hassle, you may have noticed that since the accident, you may not have been feeling your normal self. You may be experiencing obvious pains and symptoms like muscle stiffness, neck pain, headaches, difficulty sleeping, nervousness, irritability, memory loss, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and many other difficulties.

Or Worse Than That, You May Be Injured And Feel Nothing At All.

Either way, did you know that auto accidents can and frequently cause Post Traumatic Osteoarthritis? Osteoarthritis can ruin your posture (giving you a slumped or hump back appearance). Osteoarthritis can cause the discs in your spine to degenerate and create scar tissue formation leading to chronic stiffness and the inability to move properly. When this happens, simple tasks like turning your neck become painful and almost impossible.

As a matter of fact. . .

Most doctors are not trained in the detection of these hidden injuries. . . And That's A Fact!

How are these Hidden Injuries Detected.

Dr. Korgaard is trained in the Biomechanics of the human body. This means that he can perform specific orthopedic, neurological, as well as other functional tests that measure muscle strength, range of motion, and joint and nerve function.

Should I see an attorney first, before I see Dr. Korgaard?"

It is important to get checked out first from Dr. Korgaard first, that way his findings will allow you the information you need in order to decide if an attorney is necessary. If necessary, we can refer you to a reputable and qualified attorney.

First call 408-559-6844 and ask for Roxanne, mention that you would like to schedule a free preliminary check up with Dr. Korgaard. His office is trained in handling all the paperwork to see that your rights are protected and that your injuries are thoroughly documented. Injuries are easier to find if you do not wait weeks after the accident so the sooner you are checked out the better.

My name is Dr. Jens A. Korgaard. I treat auto accident victims. I believe that I am the right doctor for you, who has the training to treat soft tissue injuries correctly and professionally. Because quite simply put, I correct the physical cause of your pain and restore function back to your body without endless physical therapy or medication that dangerously covers up your problem. My office is located just minutes from Campbell, Los Gatos, Saratoga and Cupertino.

If you have been in an auto accident recently, there are some important decisions you have to make and if I were you I'd take these decisions very seriously. Most of my patients have been to other doctors before coming to my office for my gentle specialized care. You are welcome to visit our center and get a free surface Static EMG test to document your injury. (State of the art SEMG)

But my car sustained only minor damage and I'm only suffering from sore muscles, my doctor said it is just a sprain and that I'll be O.K

Charles Carroll, M.D., Paul McAtee, M.D., and Lee Riley, Jr., M.D. in their article "Objective findings for diagnosis of Whiplash" in the Journal of Muscoloskeletal Medicine noted that:

SEMG
"The amount of damage to the automobile bears little relation to the force applied to the cervical spine (neck) of the occupants."

In other words, the damage to the passengers is not necessarily directly related to the damage to the vehicle. Gargan and Bannister reported a late onset of neck pain, extremity pain or paraesthesia, interscapular pain, tinnitus, headache, dizziness, and visual disturbance after one week. Between three months and one year post-accident, another 22% deteriorated.

Nerve damage (perineural fibrosis) can lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome up to 2 years later. If I Need Treatment For This Injury, Do I Have To Pay For It Myself?

No, only in very rare circumstances does the patient pay for their care. California is a "no fault" state, which means that no matter who was at fault in the accident, you are still entitled to benefits under your car insurance policy.

Most car insurance policies have what is called "med Pay". This means that your medical bills will be paid at 100% up to a certain limit. Using your med pay will not raise your rates.

In some cases, if there is no insurance to bill, we will accept an attorney lien. If you don't understand what this means, please feel free to call us and we will be happy to explain it to you.

I've Been to The Hospital And My Medical Doctor Do I Really Need To See Dr. Korgaard?

You need a doctor that specializes in the treatment and diagnosis of auto accident injuries. Usually hospitals will check vital signs, and release the patient with pain relief medication. They are not trained to detect underlying improper musculoskeletal biomechanics that can and often lead to future pain.

If your M.D. has given you pills, you must understand that pills cannot and do not correct structural or soft tissue damage. There are special therapies designed for that, and we offer these modalities at our San Jose Office.

Does Your Care Hurt?

Absolutely not. The care is very gentle and quite soothing. There are no popping, twisting or cracking involved. Most patients can hardly wait to get their care and find it quite relaxing. Click here for Our Patients Speak

Is the care safe?

Yes, extremely. Particularly when compared to the side effects from all medications.

FINAL WORDS

You have rights, and you may not be aware of what those rights are. You also need to know that most doctors are not trained in treating soft tissue injuries.

Soft tissue injuries are usually more dangerous than even a broken bone. Soft tissues heal with scar tissue and cause future pain and suffering. Scar tissue (fibrosis of repair) can effect tendons, ligaments, discs, joints, nerves, blood supply, lymph nodes, range of motion, muscle strength, and can rapidly speed up the degenerative processes of the spine known as Post Traumatic Osteoarthritis.

There have been reports recently of insurance companies contacting accident victims immediately after an accident. The companies tell victims they want to help and ask them quickly to settle their claim. If you're in an accident and this happens to you, ask yourself, who is the insurance company really trying to help?

Please, for your own good, do not sign or settle until you had us evaluate your injury for you. If you settle before your injury is fully resolved, you are completely on your own. If, after you have been examined, the insurance carrier has question about your injury, I will reveal to them the results of the examination and furnish them any necessary reports.

Just call the office and you will receive a FREE consultation and the free state-of-the-art diagnostic test called surface EMG just in case there are hidden injuries that need to be documented.

To schedule your testing call (860) 667-4722

Yours in Health,
Dr. Jens A. Korgaard

P.S. If you have ANY questions, call the office at (860) 667-4722 and leave a message. Dr. Korgaard will personally call you back to answer any questions you may have.
