If you're one of the millions of people who suffer from frequent headaches, or their evil twin, migraines, you know just how painful and debilitating they can be. Migraines in particular can be especially problematic. They are often accompanied by flashing lights or a sensitivity to light, sound and motion. Migraines result from a constriction and dilation of the blood vessels in the brain. But migraines and other headaches can have several root causes, including toxins in the body, stress and spinal misalignments. Alcohol, drugs, food additives and sensitivities to certain foods such as coffee, tea, citrus fruits, dairy products and chocolates can overload the body with toxins. These and other toxins can irritate the small muscles which control the diameter of the blood vessels in the brain. One of the problems in treating migraines is that each person's body chemistry is different. A food that can make one person double over in pain will have no adverse effect on another. The way in which a food is processed and the additives that are used, can also be factors. One brand of food may affect you while another doesn't. Another common cause of headaches is stress, which can cause a build-up of toxins in the body and also affect existing spinal misalignments, or subluxation. Which leads us to the subject of subluxations, which can cause headaches in several ways. Vertebral subluxations, causes interference within the nervous system and impairs its function and performance. If the nerves in your neck become irritated, headaches or migraines often result. Another problem associated with subluxations is tightening of the muscle as the body tries to compensate for the misalignment. If the muscle attached to the base of the head remains tight for long periods of time toxins can build up and headaches can result. Chiropractic treatment can relieve and prevent many headaches by gently adjusting the spine back to its normal position. Network Chiropractic which I practice, is a revolutionary gentle technique that can free you from headaches and other types of body pain. Not only does it help your own body move vertebra back into their proper position, but it also helps relieve stress and remove toxins from the body. It is a whole body approach to health. Erin, a woman in her late 20's had been to four different neurologists. All of them told her that she would have to learn to "live with it". After a few months of sessions with Network Chiropractic, she was able to quit taking her prescription medication. She went from having six migraines a month to one migraine every two months and each episode was much less severe. Elaine was in her 50's and had tried traditional chiropractic, nutritional therapies, changing diet, meditation and ozone/ionizers. She had had some relief, but had still experienced regular headaches for the past 30 years. Within the first month, her headaches disappeared.Dr. Jens Korgaard of Newington invites you to participate in Patient Appreciation Month in May.
